New Testament teaching, one passage at a time.

Recorded sessions and study materials that look for the original meaning of the stories, images, and life of Jesus, and ask what that meaning requires of us now.

Rethinking the Gospel is a personal teaching ministry from Rob Massie, lead pastor of New Life Fellowship in White House, Tennessee. Each session works through a passage in its historical and literary setting, with the handouts and outlines you'd get in the room. Nothing here is behind a paywall, and nothing requires an account.

The sessions are made for Christians who want to go deeper and for skeptics who want a fair hearing. Start anywhere; each one stands on its own. If you teach a class or lead a group, the materials are yours to print and use. Read how Rob approaches the text →

About these sessions

Is this free?
Yes. Every session and every download is free, with no account and no ads. If you want to help cover the cost, there's a support page; it's optional.
What's the approach?
Read the text in its own world first: first-century Judaism, the Hebrew scriptures it quotes, the Roman setting it lives in. Then ask what it meant to its first hearers, and only then what it asks of us. The aim is clarity, not novelty.
Do I need any background?
No. Terms get explained as they come up, and the handouts carry the references. A Bible in any translation is the only thing you need.
Can I use the materials with a group?
Please do. Print the outlines, play the video, argue about it. Attribution is appreciated; permission isn't required.
How often are sessions added?
Roughly weekly. The newest is always at the top of the sessions page.
